Bear is a symbol of Perm Krai. However, it is not the only reason why the sculpture appeared in the centre of Perm. The idea of the monument is connected with a common myth, shared by some foreigners, that says: “Bears walk in the streets of Russian cities”. This animal is represented on the coat of arms of Perm Krai. A sketch of a moving bear was created
by the sculptor Vladimir Pavlenko. Bronze statue was placed near the “Ural” Hotel on June, 12th 2009, when Perm City Day is annually celebrated. The bronze bear that weighs 1 tons arrived from Ekaterinburg on June, 11 —day before the celebrations.
